Places to Visit - Caldbeck

Caldbeck is our nearest village, at just 3 miles away, it’s a short 5 minute drive or if you fancy a walk, you can head over the fields, up to the mast and down into the village. Named after the river that runs through it (Cold Beck), you will find beautiful countryside, a friendly local pub and quaint cottages to explore.

  • Take a picnic and relax on the green alongside the pond surrounded by ducks & sheep
  • Visit Priest’s Mill, a former watermill that now houses a cafe and gift shops
  • Into history? Head to St Kentigern’s Church where you will find the final resting place of John Peel the famous huntsman
  • Midtown Milk - why not try the local produce at this self serve dairy? A whole milk vending machine with milkshake options plus local butter, cheese and eggs.
  • Walk the Howk, a short family walk which follows the river along a limestone gorge, past the old Bobbin Mill and past beautiful waterfalls. Cross the bridge on the left and head through the field to circle back into the village. (Starts behind the green shed near the pond, through someones yard)
  • Fancy a longer walk? Walk from Caldbeck to Hesket Newmarket, you can always call in The Old Crown, famous for the real ales from the Hesket Newmarket Brewery next door. The pub is owned by a co-operative of 150 customers and supporters from the community! (1.6 miles each way)
